Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University dropped their first dual match of the 2017-18 women's tennis season as the Pacers (0-1) fell to Misericordia University (2-0) 6-3 in a tight non-conference matchup.
Misericordia jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Samantha Kropa and Erika Slowicki defeated Marywood's duo of Emily Edwards and Brooke Panek 8-1 in the three-doubles flight.  The Cougars went up 2-0 thanks to an 8-4 win at number two doubles from Amberlynn Habich and Linsey Parks as they beat Nicole Sinclair and Emily Zarrilla.
Marywood got on the board and cut their deficit to 2-1 when Abygail Doud and Danielle Ogonowski won at number one doubles, 8-5, over Allison Mattucci and Carly Young of Misericordia.
In singles play, Misericordia took matches in the first through fourth flight to secure the win.  Four singles matches went to three sets and finished with superset tiebreakers in the third set.  Kropa defeated Doud 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 at number two, while Parks won 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 over Sinclair at number three.
Habich earned a 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 win over Zarrilla in number four singles, while Gina Babcock won 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 for Marywood at number five over Slowicki.  Deena Mahdavi picked up the Pacers' other point in singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win voer Kayla Rembish at number six singles.
Marywood hosts The University of Scranton Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
