Volleyball Earns First Win of the Season in Scranton Split

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University notched its first volleyball victory of the season with a three-set victory over John Jay College Friday at the University of Scranton tri-match. The Pacers fell 3-0 to host crosstown Scranton in the first match of the triple bill.

Marywood ends a 12-game slide that dates back to last year's regular season. The loss to the Royals was the Pacers' ninth to start the year.

The Pacers beat John Jay by scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-16. Scranton got the best of the Pacers with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-9 win.

Marywood 3, John Jay 0

Jordan Vossler shined from both sides of the end line with 17 digs and five aces.

The Pacers took advantage of the Bloodhounds' minus-.078 hitting performance en route to the victory.

Peri Sheerin led the team with eight kills and a .185 attack percentage. Sam Compton finished with six kills. Annie Heyen finished with 20 assists and seven digs.

The Pacers committed just three errors in the first set and five in the second set.

Scranton 3, Marywood 0

Vossler had 12 digs in a losing effort. Sheerin finished with eight kills for the second-straight match. Heyen secured 15 assists and eight digs.

Scranton (14-1) shot .244 for the match. The Pacers were just .025 from the field.

Marywood will face another Landmark Conference opponent when it hosts Moravian College Monday at 7:00 pm.
