After Fast Start, Marywood Falls at LVC

Pacers score first but hosts explode in 9-1 win

Annville, Pa. - Visiting Marywood University struck first but Lebanon Valley College responded in a strong way as the host Dutchmen (2-0) downed the Pacers 9-1 in non-conference women's soccer action Thursday evening in Annville.

Marywood (0-2) grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play as Jackie VonItter netted the Pacers' first goal of the season after weaving through several defenders and finishing from the left side.

Lebanon Valley dodged a close call minutes later as a Marywood player was taken down in the box but no call was made, and the Dutchmen then began to find their strength.  LVC's Teanna Shutt took a feed from Meghan Ross and one-timed home the cross from the right flank.

Then, it became the Rileigh Jo Evitts show.  The Dutchmen forward took over, netting five consecutive goals, three of which came on assists from Ross and three of which were one-time finishes on crosses.

LVC would add three more tallied late, including another from Shutt.

Lebanon Valley outshot Marywood 24-8.  Ali Moyer and Bella DiToma each made three saves for Marywood while Haley Taylor made one.  Each allowed three goals.

Marywood hosts Wilkes Saturday at 1:00 pm. That game will also serve as a fundraiser for former Marywood assistant coach and Wilkes alumna Nina (Kocylowski) Herbst.  Herbst and her entire family were struck by a vehicle while walking as pedestrians several weeks ago and will have substantial medical bills.  You can read more about the fundraising effort here.
