Marywood Slips to Neumann in CSAC Tilt

Scranton, Pa. - Neumann University's Nafisa Saunders scored 37 points and 10 rebounds to upend Marywood University 69-62 Wednesday in a Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup. Saunders and teammate Lauren Legler (17 points) comprised 78 percent of the Knights' scoring. 

Marywood slips to fourth place in the CSAC standings. The Pacers (10-10, 7-3) are one game behind Gwynedd Mercy in the CSAC North Division. 

Erika Bistran led the Pacers with 20 points. She went 6 of 13 from the floor with three 3-pointers. 

Gab Giordano helped a late run with 15 points. Natasha Hessling finished with a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

Marywood honored seniors Catie Nealon and Lisa Steakin with a ceremony prior to the game. 

Saunders made 14 of 27 shots from the field. She made nine of 10 attempts from the charity stripe. 

Marywood trailed by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter before making a run in the waning minutes. The Pacers went on a 15-5 run in a five-minute span. Bistran made a layup with 34 seconds on a feed from Hessling to cut the deficit to 66-62 with 32 seconds remaining. After Shauntel Williams made one of two free throws, Marywood had a chance to cut down the deficit. The Pacers were unable to get an inbounds in play, and Legler stole the ball to force a chance to the charity stripe. 

The Pacers hope to get back on track at Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday.
