Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pacers Rally from 24 Down to Stun Keystone, 81-79

Scranton, Pa. - Thomas Swartz hit a jumper with just over six seconds left to lift Marywood University men's basketball to a thrilling 81-79 win over Keystone College Tuesday night in CSAC men's basketball action.  The Pacers, who trailed by as many as 24 points in the game and 22 at half, rallied to improve to 8-4 (3-3) on the year. The Giants fell to 5-7 (4-2) with the shocking loss.

Swartz's final bucket of the game gave him a game-high 29 points.  James Curley hit four threes for 17 points and Jeremy Ringland added 12 points and nine boards while dishing out six assists.  Donovan Catchings had nine assists.

Keystone was led by JT Bennett's 21 points and Austin Smith's 20.  John Kirkpatrick (14) and Perry Belcher (10) reached double figures for Keystone as well.

The first half was all Keystone as the Giants hit 11 three pointers and forced 11 first half turnovers as they built a 53-31 lead at the half.  The Giants scored 15 points off of those 11 Marywood miscues as Bennett (15) and Smith (14) combined for 29 first half points.

Marywood, meanwhile, was held to 11 of 25 shooting from the floor.  Keystone hit 52.6% of their shots in the opening half and 61.1% from beyond the arc (11 of 18).

In a tale of two halves, Marywood's defense picked up intensity in the second, forcing nine second half turnovers and scoring 15 points off of them.  The Pacers held on to the ball in the second, committing just four turnovers of their own.

The Pacers slowly chipped away at the 22-point halftime deficit and found themselves down 13, 70-57, at the 11:33 mark after a layup from Kirkpatrick.  Marywood would hold Keystone scoreless over the next 5:26 and eventually took a one-point, 71-70 lead on a pair of Ringland free throws.  Marywood then went up three on a Tone Cockrell jumper, and Keystone finally ended their scoreless drought at the 4:49 mark when Bryan Williams nailed a pair of freebies.

Williams' free throws ended a 16-0 run from Marywood that lasted over seven minutes.

Tied at 75-75, Swartz made a layup to put the hosts up two, and Williams went 1-of-2 at the charity stripe at the other end to make it a one-point Marywood lead.

A pair of freebies from Swartz put Marywood up 79-76 with 30 seconds left, but after a Keystone timeout Smith nailed a long trey to knot the game at 79-all.  After a Marywood timeout at midcourt, the Pacers inbounded the ball and found Swartz, who spun back to shake a defender and nailed a 10-foot jumper with six ticks left to give the Pacers the lead.

The Giants inbounded the ball and drove the length of the court, but a missed three with three ticks left allowed Ringland to grab the rebound and seal the win.

Marywood out-rounded Keystone 22-13 in the second half and 38-31 for the game.

Marywood travels to Cabrini for a 8:00 pm tilt Thursday.
