Volleyball Downs Macs for First Atlantic East Victory

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University earned its first ever Atlantic East Conference volleyball victory with a four-set win over Immaculata University on Tuesday. After losing the first set, the Pacers came back to win the next three.

Marywood won by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-16. The Pacers improve their record to 12-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Sam Compton led by tying for a team-high 10 kills with three block assists. Gabriella Santos also totaled 10 kills with just one error for a .429 attack percentage.

Peri Sheerin finished with a team-high 16 points. She provided the Pacers with nine kills, six aces, and a pair of blocks.

Ashley King garnered five block assists. Mikayla Attwood chipped in with three block assists.

Defensively, Jordan Vossler registered 18 digs. Sara Burgos came through with eight digs, in addition to her 35 assists.

In the first set, Marywood held on to a 21-15 lead. Madi Curley had four straight aces to spark a seven-point service trip. Compton evened the score at 22-22. Immaculata finished with three straight points to finish off the set with two kills by Olivia Zdradzinski.

In the second set, Compton had a block, kill and an ace in a row to spark the Pacers to an early advantage. The Mighty Macs led in the third set by an 8-7 advantage. Sheerin took the lead with a kill followed by a series of IU attack errors. Brenna Kelley had a pair of aces on a six-point run to reach set point. Sheerin scored three straight points in the final set to break open the match.

It marked the third consecutive victory for the Pacers over Immaculata.

Marywood welcomes Atlantic East foe Marymount University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
