Volleyball Takes Set, Falls 3-1 to Marymount

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University won a set but ultimately fell 3-1 to Marymount University Saturday in Atlantic East Conference volleyball action. The Pacers evened it at a game apiece before the Saints went on to win the last two sets. 

Marymount (19-3, 2-0) prevailed by scores of 25-11, 24-26, 25-8, 25-18. 

Sam Compton led the Pacers with seven kills and 11 digs with a .200 attack percentage. Peri Sheerin also had seven kills with a block assist. 

Jordan Vossler provided 18 digs. Mikayla Attwood was a part of four of the Pacers' five blocks. Sara Burgos finished with 21 assists. 

Marymount hit .231 for the afternoon, compared to the Pacers' .019 attack percentage. 

Emily Abramaitys was the lone Saint in double figures offensively with 11 kills and a .357 attack percentage. Myah Cordrey had eight kills without an error for a .571 attack percentage.  Theresa Buscemi totaled 10 digs. Miranda Cooksey matched Attwood with four blocks. Caylee Shelton finished with six aces. 

In the second set, Marywood (12-7, 1-2) hung close but fell behind 17-9 after seven straight points off Shelton serves. Off Burgos' serves, Nicole Cashman cut the deficit to three on a kill. Vossler tied the set at 20-20, but Cooksey soon regained the lead with a kill from Alana Ball. 

Marywood faced a 24-21 set point on an attack error. The Pacers won the final five points of the set for the win. Compton kicked the rally off with a kill from Vossler and then supported the rally on her service game. Compton tied the match at 24-24 with a kill from Sheerin. The Pacers closed out the second on an attack error and ball-handling error by the Saints. 

Marywood hosts Cabrini University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
