Women's Soccer Upends Cabrini to Remain Perfect in Atlantic East

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University's women's soccer team picked up its first win over Cabrini University since 2011 as the Pacers upended the Cavaliers 2-1 in Atlantic East Conference action Wednesday.

Now winners of five straight and six of their last seven, Marywood improves to 6-6 on the year and remain a perfect 3-0 in league play. Cabrini suffered its fourth loss of the year (7-4) and first in Atlantic East action (1-1).  The last time the Pacers beat the Cavaliers was in Radnor on October 22, 2011, a 3-1 win for Marywood.

In an evenly played first half, Cabrini led Marywood 6-4 in shots with each team placing one on goal. The Cavaliers proved to be dangerous though, and generated seven first half corners to just one for Marywood.

But it was the Pacers who broke the scoreless tie. Julie Youngman corralled a flicked header from Ashley Kruchinsky, out-ran a defender and slotted home the ball past Cabrini's Ashley Tutzauer at the 14:45 mark. McKenzie Dailey, who had sent a long ball to Kruchinsky, was also credited with an assist on the play.

Just after halftime, the dangers of Cabrini's set-play attacked came again, and this time the Cavaliers capitalized. On yet another corner just three minutes into the half, Payton Greene bodied home a corner from Marissa Portelli to knot the game at 1-1.

Seemingly carry the momentum, Cabrini continued to press for the game-winner.  But Megan Swiecicki had other plans as she took a long pass from Natalia Colasurdo and put home the game-winner from the right edge of the 18-yard box.

Cabrini had numerous other chances to tie the game, including several others on corners and on a ripped shot that ricocheted off the crossbar with five minutes remaining.  But nothing more would get past Aly Moyer or the Pacers defense, as even Swiecicki cleared a shot off the line on a corner kick to preserve the Pacers' victory.

Cabrini held a 18-10 advantage in shots but only managed to place seven on frame.  Moyer made five saves for the win, and Swiecicki had one on the goal-line clearance.

Marywood travels to Dover, Delaware on Saturday to take on Wesley College at 6:00 pm.
