Wesley Knocks Off Women's Soccer, 3-1

Dover, Del. - Host Wesley College's Mackenzie Forsythe scored on the Wolverine's first three shots of the game as the home side downed Marywood 3-1 in a key Atlantic East women's soccer showdown Saturday evening in Delaware.

Wesley (8-3-1, 3-1) grabbed sole possession of first place in the Atlantic East with the win.  They are tied with Marywood with identical league marks with two conference games remaining before playoffs but hold the tiebreaker over the Pacers with the head-to-head win.  Cabrini, who is 2-1 in the league and defeated the Wolverines 1-0 a week ago, remains a game back of both Marywood and Wesley.

Marywood (6-7, 3-1) out-shot the Wolverines 21-7 in the first half, and had taken nearly 10 shots before Forsythe capitalized on a failed clearance in the Marywood 18-yard box for the game's first goal.

In the 22nd minute, a Marywood defender chested down a ball inside their own 18.  Emily Caldaelli stole the ball off her foot and found Forsythe who slotted it home to put Wesley up 1-0.  Five minutes later, the league's leading scorer doubled the Wolverine's lead on a breakaway again assisted by Caldarelli.

Then 10 minutes later, Fosythe completed the hat-trick with another breakaway goal, this time unassisted, as she picked up her 14th goal of the season.

Marywood cut into the deficit with a penalty kick goal from Madison Daches with just under four minutes remaining in the opening half, but despite again out-shooting Wesley in the second half (13-10) the Pacers could not find the back of the net again.

Isabella Fabris made 16 saves in the win for Wesley while Aly Moyer had five stops for the Pacers.

Marywood travels to Moravian Tuesday for a non-conference tilt at 7:00 pm.
