Sara Sterchak and
Jenna Dickey each scored two goals to lead Marywood University to a 4-1 victory over Neumann University in Atlantic East Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
Lindsey Quinn finished with a pair of assists.
Junior goalkeeper
Kerri Mountz stopped three penalty shots as part of a 12-save effort. Mountz posted a season-high for saves.
Marywood built a 3-0 lead by halftime and improved to 9-4 (2-1 Atlantic East) on the year. Neumann slipped to 6-6 (2-1) with the loss.
Despite being out-shot 7-6 in the first half, the Pacers put three in the back of the cage. Sterchak started the scoring in the 21st minute off of a penalty corner chance off of an assist from
Lindsey Quinn. Just over three minutes later, Dickey followed up on a Quinn breakaway chance that was stalled by the keeper. In pursuit, Dickey drilled a shot home from 14 yards out to double the Marywood lead.
Marywood tacked on one more goal just before halftime as the clock expired on a penalty corner attempt. Sterchak fired her second of the game from 14 yards away on a
Kenzie Drew dish.
Neumann spoiled the shutout bid with 2:30 remaining on a goal from Kelly Rodgers. Marywood responded by closing the scoring with great stick work in the final minute of action.
Lindsey Gladden sprinted down the right sidelines and delivered a cross that was redirected by
Gwyneth Gleason. In one touch, Quinn shoveled the ball left. Dickey put home a feed for the 4-1 lead.
The Knights held a 22-12 (13-9 on goal) lead in shots and an 11-8 edge in penalty corners.
The Pacers host Gwynedd Mercy University in a key conference showdown Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
