Pacers Concede Two Late Goals in Atlantic East Showdown

Scranton, Pa. -- A pair of goals allowed in the last 15 minutes propelled Gwynedd Mercy University over Marywood University in an Atlantic East Conference field hockey battle. The Pacers fell to the first place Griffins 2-0 to fall to fourth place in the conference standings.

Gwynedd Mercy's Caitlyn Thornton ended the scoreless impasse with a goal in the 56th minute. Thornton knocked in a Kaitlyn Lutz pass from the right end line on a close-range attempt that was nearly saved.

The Griffins added an insurance goal in the 64th. Off of a penalty corner, the Marywood goalkeeper saved a pair of shots on goal. Shannon Carroll received a cross from Maggie Walsh through the defense for an open look shot.

Mountz was brilliant once again with eight saves. She made a save off of a penalty shot -- her fourth in two games -- in the final minute of the first half to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.

Marywood received defensive saves from Sara Marshall and Sara Sterchak

The Pacers' lone shot on goal was the first of the game. Jenna Dickey had a shot in the seventh minute that was stopped by Sarah Crane to ensure her clean sheet. Kenzie Drew's shot off of the Pacers' only penalty corner went into the cage for what appeared to be the first goal but was called off due to a violation.

Gwynedd Mercy had 17 penalty corners to the Pacers' one. The Griffins outshot the home team by a 19-2 margin.

The Pacers look to turn it around against Atlantic East foe Cabrini University on Saturday. It is the conference regular season finale.
