Scranton, Pa. - The Marywood University volleyball team fell to current Atlantic East Conference leader Cabrini College 3-0 on Tuesday. The Cavaliers remain undefeated in conference play 5-0, while the Pacers fall to 1-3.
Gabriella Santos lead the Pacers offense with six kills, and
Peri Sheerin recorded a team high .285 attacking percentage.
Jordan Vossler tied for the most digs of the game with eight, while
Sara Burgos recorded a game high 14 assists.
The Pacers hung close at the beginning of the first set, staying within two points of the Cavaliers, but were unable to answer a five point rally that would put Cabrini ahead 13-6. Several more rallies would see them take the set 25-15.
The momentum carried into the second set as the Cavaliers scored seven straight points before the Pacers got on the board. A relentless attack earned Cabrini the second set 25-7.
The third set proved to be more like the first, with the Pacers hanging close in the early moments and even taking the lead at one point; however, as the set came to a close, the Cavaliers pulled away to win the set and the match 25-14.
Cabrini's win comes off of a strong .455 attacking percentage, compared to Marywood's .000. The Cavaliers outshot and were more consistent than the Pacers, recording 77 attacks, resulting in 44 kills. The Pacers totaled 68 attacks but only earned 16 kills.
The Pacers travel to Gwynedd Valley, Pa. on Oct. 18 for another Atlantic East matchup with Gwynedd Mercy University.
