Atlantic East Competition Begins in Volleyball's Loss to Neumann

Aston, Pa. – Marywood University opened a new era by playing in its first ever Atlantic East Conference competition on Tuesday. The volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Neumann University to end a five-match winning streak.

The Knights downed the Pacers by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 25-15.

Mikayla Attwood finished with a team-high six kills. Katie Bilello led the Pacers defensively with seven digs.

Jordan Vossler finished with three aces. Sara Burgos had 16 assists.

Neumann's Melanie Malseed recorded 15 kills and nine digs for a .278 attack percentage. Ariana Pena finished with 11 kills.

Marywood shot .077 for the match, compared to Neumann's .319. The Pacers only had 18 kills on the night.

The Pacers kept toe-to-toe with the Knights in the first set until Rachael Hoffman broke things open with six straight points off of her serves.

In the second set, after trailing 19-12, Marywood cut the deficit to three in part because of two straight Vossler aces. The Pacers brought the score to 23-21 off of an Attwood ace. Malseed countered with a kill to set up set point. Following an Ashley King kill, the Knights finished the set on a Marywood attack error.

Marywood heads south this weekend for two tri-matches. The Pacers take on Ursinus College, and Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday in Lancaster. Marywood travels to Media the next day to take on Penn State Brandywine and Pratt Institute.
