Volleyball Comes Back to Down Ursinus in Five Sets; Pacers Split F&M Tri-Match

Lancaster, Pa. – Marywood University remained undefeated in five-set matches this season with a 3-2 win over Ursinus College on Saturday at the Franklin & Marshall Women's Volleyball Tri-Match. The Pacers dropped a three-set match to the host Diplomats for the tri-split.

The Pacers move to 9-6 overall with their first win over the Bears since the 2013 opener.

Marywood 3, Ursinus 2

The Pacers came back from a two-set disadvantage for the second time this year. It marked the teams' fourth 3-2 win on the season.

Marywood toppled the Bears by scores of 20-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 15-4.

Gabriella Santos had a landmark game with 16 kills and a .455 attack percentage. Santos finished with three aces, four blocks and nine digs. She had just one error on 33 attacks.

Mikayla Attwood had the second-most single-match blocks in modern day program history with nine total blocks. She put back three solo and six assisted put-backs. Attwood reached double figures with 10 kills.

Jordan Vossler posted the second-most aces in the Marywood record books for a single-match with 11. She also provided a team-best 22 digs.

Defensively, Sam Compton totaled 14 digs. Sara Burgos finished the match with 33 assists and 13 digs.

Marywood's 15-4 victory in the fifth set was their most lopsided game of the season.

Grace Sullivan had 19 digs for the Bears. Kelly Piotrowicz had 20 assists and 13 digs.

The Pacers shot .246 for the match, while the Bears had a .062 attack percentage.

Franklin & Marshall 3, Marywood 0

The Diplomats coasted to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 victory. F&M shot .330 for the match, compared to the Pacers' .198.

Attwood had a team-high eight kills with a .583 attack percentage. Vossler garnered 13 digs, and Burgos finished with 18 assists.

In the first set, the Pacers trailed 12-11 before a six-point run on Delaney Hahn serves separated the two teams. Similarly, Marywood trailed 16-14 in the second set, and the Dips won six of seven points for a seven-point lead.

Marywood was unable to close out the third set with a lead. Peri Sheerin had a kill to give the Pacers a 19-17 lead. After Sheerin regained the lead at 20-19, the Dips posted five straight points to earn match point on Chloe Kong serves.

The Pacers take on Pratt Institute and Penn State Brandywine on Sunday in another tri-match.
