#2 Messiah Blanks Marywood

Scranton, Pa. - Messiah College, the second-ranked team in the country, netted five first half goals en route to a 6-0 win over host Marywood University Friday evening.

The Falcons (15-1-1) recorded their 10th consecutive shutout (9-0-1) and out-shot Marywood 31-1 (21-0 on goal).  Lilly Shover and Ashley Sauder each had a pair of goals for Messiah, while Jessie Fisher had five assists.

Sunny Geinovatch got the scoring started for the Falcons with a goal in the ninth minute off a pass from Julia Kyne.  Messiah pushed the lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals from Shover in a 95-second span in the 36th and 37th minutes. Tallies from Brooke Firestone and Sauder gave the Falcons a 5-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Sauder scored her second of the match in the 74th minute to complete the scoring and give Messiah a 6-0 victory in the non-conference match to end the regular season.

Megan Swiecicki recorded Marywood's lone shot.  Aly Moyer gave up one goal and made eight stops in the opening thirty minutes of action.  Bella DiToma made four stops over the next 30, and Haley Taylor made three saves in the closing 30. 

Marywood is the #4 seed in the Atlantic East Conference tournament and will host #5 Marymount (Va.) Monday at 4:00 pm in first round action.
