Women's Soccer Advances to Atlantic East Semifinal

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University got a goal and an assist from both Becca Dolgas and Julie Youngman as the fourth-seeded Pacers advanced to the Atlantic East Conference semifinal round with a 4-2 win over #5 Marymount University (Va.) Monday afternoon.

Marywood improved to 7-11 on the year and will face#2 Wesley on the road Wednesday at 7:00 pm. #6 Immaculata defeated #3 Neumann 3-2 in double overtime in the other first round contest and will take on #1 Cabrini in the other Atlantic East Conference semifinal Wednesday. The highest remaining seed after Wednesday's semifinal matchups will host the Championship game Saturday.

Youngman's game-winning goal, her fifth of the season, set a new Marywood career record, besting Hall of Famer Lindsay Pappas' career mark of 16 game-winners she netted from 1999-2002.

Becca Dolgas opened the scoring at the 5:08 mark when she took a short clearance off the Saints' defense and chipped net-minder Sydney Sherman to put the Pacers up 1-0 early.  It was Dolgas' second tally of the season.

In the 36th minute, Brooke Longstreet bodied in a Megan Swiecicki corner kick to double the Marywood lead. Marywood out-shot Marymount 14-1 in the opening half, with Aly Moyer making a nice save off a Saints' corner kick to preserve the lead for Marywood.

Twelve minutes into the second, Youngman would enter the Pacers' record books.  Dolgas sent a brilliant slot pass to a streaking Youngman who riffled a shot past Sydney Schultz to the far post, giving Marywood a 3-1 lead.  Though not the game-winner at the time, it would soon turn out to be.

Karen Reyes brought life back into Marymount with a brilliant strike to the far post netting from the left edge of the 18 yard box in the 63rd minute.

Marywood responded just three minutes later and reclaimed a three goal lead as Youngman raced down the left flank and found Madison Daches through the middle. Daches took one touch inside the 18 and then knocked it home from 17 yards out, putting Marywood up 4-1.

Marymount would not go quietly, as a hand ball in the box in the 80th minute gave them another opportunity.  Moyer made a great diving save to her right off the penalty kick, then on the original rebound shot as well, but a third effort at the goal was good for the Saints as Mia Londregan put the ball in the back of the net in a scramble.

The Pacers had 25 shots in all to Marymount's 13, and put 14 on goal to seven for the Saints.  Moyer made five stops in all, while Sherman had four and Schultz six in 45 minutes of action each for the visitors.  Marywood had six corners to three for Marymount.
