Dover, Del. - Madison Daches headed home a direct kick from Brooke Longstreet at the 76 minute mark to send fourth-seeded Marywood University to the Atlantic East Conference women's soccer title game with a 1-0 win over No. 2 Wesley College.
Â
The Pacers (8-11) will host No. 6 Immaculata University (6-10-2) Saturday at 1:00 pm for the inaugural Atlantic East Conference Championship. Â The Mighty Macs stunned top seed Cabrini 3-0 in Wednesday's earlier semifinal. Marywood edged Immaculata 1-0 at home in the regular season.
Â
After a foul just inside the Pacers attacking half of the field, Longstreet sent a beautiful direct kick over the Wolverines' back line. Â With the Wesley keeper charging out for the apparent 50/50 ball, Daches leaped over one defender and headed it back in the opposite direction, finding near-post netting.
Â
Host Wesley did not go away quietly and had several other dangerous looks sail just wide of goal. Â With five seconds left, Marywood was whistled for a foul just outside the 18 yard box on the end-line. Â With the clock stopped due to a yellow card, Wesley set up a nice play, but Aly Moyer snagged a low-driven ball at the near post to preserve the Pacers' victory.
Â
Marywood out-shot Wesley 17-15 for the game, a far cry from its 34-17 advantage in the regular season meeting between the teams. But the Pacers did get revenge for their 3-1 loss to the Wolverines earlier in the year.
Â
Moyer made a game-high eight stops in the shutout win. Her counterpart Isabelle Fabris made five stops in the loss.
Â
The Wolverines (9-4-2) will await a possible ECAC bid Monday.
