Youngman Climbs Record Books in 1-0 Win

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University picked up its third straight shutout win and Julie Youngman continued her climb to the top of the women's soccer record books as the Pacers blanked Immaculata 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action.

The win, Marywood's fourth straight, improves the Pacers to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in league play. Immaculata dropped to 3-7, 0-1 Atlantic East with the loss.

Youngman scored the lone goal of the contest at the 61:07 mark when she received a deflection from the middle of the field, cut two defenders in to the right at the left corner of the 18, and ripped a right-footed shot to the far upper 90.  It was Youngman's second game-winner in as many games, both of which resulted in 1-0 wins.

Youngman's tally, her team-best seventh of the season, moves her up in the Pacers' record books in several categories.  She passes Siobhan Blancaflor ('12) in two categories and now ranks second all-time in goals scored (42) and points (115). She moves into a first-place tie with Hall of Famer Lindsay Pappas ('02) with 16 career game-winning goals. Youngman is also one assist shy (29) of Rebecca Grubb's ('02) career record of 30, tied with both Pappas and Blancaflor in that category.

Marywood missed a golden opportunity midway through the first half to take a 1-0 lead when Jackie VonItter's close range shot was saved by Brooke Shissler.  An earlier goal was nullified by offsides as Natalia Colasurdo finished a Youngman cross.

Later in the first, Marywood's Aly Moyer was whistled for a foul on a 50/50 ball in the box, resulting in a Immaculata penalty kick attempt. Moyer made a diving save to her right, preserving a 0-0 tie at that point.  The physical nature of the conference battle yielded five yellow cards, three on the Mighty Macs and two on the Pacers.

Marywood held a 16-10 advantage in shots (8-3 on goal) and 5-4 edge in corner kicks.  Shissler made seven stops for Immaculata, while Moyer picked up her third straight clean slate with three stops.

Marywood hosts Cabrini Wednesday in a rematch of the 2018 CSAC Championship which the Cavaliers won, 2-1.  Both teams are now charter members of the Atlantic East Conference. Game time is set for 4:00 pm in Scranton.
