Marywood Rolls in Home Opener, 91-65

Scranton, Pa. - Thomas Swartz and Jeremy Ringland each closed in on 1,000 career points as they helped Marywood to a 26 point win over visiting Penn State Lehigh Valley Wednesday evening at the Insalaco Arena.  Marywood got a game high 23 from Swartz in the 91-65 win.

The Pacers, now 2-1 on the year, also got 13 apiece from Adam Boussatta and Jack DeGroot.  Tone Cockrell added 11, and Ringland had eight. Ringland now has 972 career points and Swartz's hot night brought him to 963 career points.

In all, 12 of 16 Marywood players contributed points.  The Lions (1-1) were led by Jeremiah Jenkins' 17.  Brandon Purrone added 14 and James Middleton had 11.

Marywood led for 39:20 of the contest, and had as much as a 29 point lead with 3:46 to go in the game.  The Pacers had a 45-36 advantage on the boards.  Marywood hit 59.9% (36 of 68) from the floor for the game and hit 33% (8 of 24) threes.  After shooting three of seven from the charity stripe in the first half, Marywood sunk eight of nine freebies in the second.

The Pacers' defense held their opponents to 37.5% (27 of 72) shooting for the game and just three of 22 (13.6%) from behind the arc.  Marywood had 46 points in the paint to 34 for the Lions and the Pacers' bench doubled up on that of Penn State Lehigh Valley, 42-21.

The Pacers take part in the John K. Adams Tip-Off tournament this Friday and Saturday hosted by Rutgers-Newark. Marywood will take on Hunter College Friday at 5:00 pm and face either Elms College or the host Scarlet Knights Saturday.
