Holko Collects First Coaching Victory with 82-76 Decision over Wilkes

Scranton, Pa. - Gabby Holko earned her first career coaching victory by leading Marywood University to a 82-76 victory over Wilkes University on Friday night in the Cross County Challenge. The women's basketball team had a pair of players with 20-plus points, and the Pacers welcome King's College in the Day Two of the tournament. 

Sophomore Aryah Aungst scored a career-high 22 points. Aungst made 11 of 12 attempts from the free-throw line and made three 3-pointers. 

Senior Alyssa Olson made 8-of-16 shots from the field for 20 points. Likewise, Olson connected on three shots from beyond the arc. 

Emily Theobald lifted the Pacers in the fourth quarter with nine consecutive points over a three-minute span. She surpassed her career-high with 14 points. Overcoming early foul trouble, Natasha Hessling collected 13 rebounds. 

The University of Scranton survived a 15-point comeback by King's College in the tournament opener. 

Free-throw shooting proved to be the difference-maker in the game. In the fourth quarter alone, the Pacers made 15-of-17 foul shots for an 88.2 percent clip. For the game, Marywood shot 77.8 percent to the Colonels' 60 percent. 

Wilkes trimmed the deficit to two (66-64) with 3:52 left in the game on a Maddie Kelley 3-pointer. Theobald made a jump shot on a Marissa Fernandez Tierney feed to take a 68-64 advantage. Following a turnovers, Fernandez Tierney opened a lane for Hessling for a layup. A steal by Theobald allowed Aungst to make both ends of a double-double to extend the Pacers' lead to 2:32. 

The Colonels (1-3) brought the deficit back to three (73-70). Hessling made two free throws, and Aungst finished the game with the team's last seven points. 

Marywood (1-1) outscored Wilkes 21-10 on turnovers. Wilkes committed 21 turnovers to the Pacers' 15. Marywood outrebounded Wilkes by a 40-35 margin. 

Wilkes was also led by two players with 20-plus points. Alyssa Alfano had 23 points, and Ashley Caster tallied 21 points. 

The Colonels take on the Royals at 2 pm. The Pacers square off against the Monarchs at 4 pm.
