Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ringland, Swartz Reach 1,000 Point Club

Scranton, Pa. - Jeremy Ringland and Thomas Swartz became the sixth and seventh players to reach 1,000 career points in men's basketball history as the duo surpassed the milestone within seconds of each other Tuesday evening.

Despite the historic moment and a game-high 19 from Ringland and a double-double from Swartz, Marywood (3-3) fell to Penn State Harrisburg (4-1) 71-65 in non-conference action.

19045Ringland entered the game four points shy of 1,000 while Swartz only need three.  A early three pointer from Ringland for Marywood's first points got him to 999, and then he hit a turnaround jumper in the lane 2:47 into the game to reach 1,001 career points.  Ringland would go on for 14 more on the night and now stands at 1,015 career points, which currently ranks him sixth all-time.

Swartz, meanwhile, entered three points shy of the milestone and hit a pair of free throws 6:32 into the game to get to 999.  Like Ringland, Swartz got his almost immediately after reaching 999 as within a minute a steal from Donovan Catchings led to a fast-break layup that Swartz would put away, giving him 1,001 career points as well.

Swartz went on to complete the game's only double-double as he finished with 16 points and 10 defensive boards. He now stands at 1,013 career points and seventh in all-time scoring.19046

The rest of the game was a back-and-forth battle between the Lions and Pacers.  Penn State used 11 second chance points to Marywood's two in the first half to build a slight 31-27 lead at the break.  Neither team shot well from the floor in the opening half, with Marywood hitting 9 of 26 (34.6%) of their shots and Penn State Harrisburg connecting on a slightly better 13 of 31 (41.9%) attempts.  Both teams shot below 30% from beyond the arc in the first stanza with Marywood making just two from long range and Harrisburg making three.

Marywood opened the second on a 6-0 run on back-to-back three's from Ringland and Swartz to take a brief 33-31 lead, and Swartz hit another trey moments later to tie the game at 36-36.

From there, Penn State and Marywood would trade leads down the stretch, but Penn State Harrisburg took advantage at the line, making 10 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

In all, the game saw 12 lead changes and seven ties.

The Lions were led by 18 points from Chris Bing, who was 8-for-10 from the floor and added nine boards.

Marywood will look to rebound from their two-game slide when they host SUNY Potsdam (1-2) Saturday at 2:00 pm.
