Women's Basketball Slips to No. 8 Scranton on Home Court

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University fell to No. 8 University of Scranton 68-47 on Tuesday in crosstown women's basketball action. The Pacers lost in a battle between the two Cross County Challenge co-champions three days after both teams dispatched their Wilkes-Barre foes. 

Aryah Aungst reached double figures for the fourth time in as many games this season with a team-high 14 points with four assists. Similarly, Emily Theobald had her fourth game in double figures with 10 points. 

Fresh off her Atlantic East Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, Natasha Hessling garnered 11 rebounds. 

Marywood shot 34.6 percent from the field, while the Royals connected for 48.1 percent of their attempts. Scranton outscored the Royals 30-8 in the paint. 

The Royals were led by Bridgette Man's 18 points. Mackenzie Mason and Emily Sheehan each provided 13 points. Sofia Recupero had 10 points. 

Trailing by six (11-5) in the first quarter, the Pacers scored six straight to even up the score at 11 apiece. Aungst made a 3-pointer on an assist from Kylie Wyers with nine minutes left in the second quarter. Mann followed with a 3-pointer at the other end, and Theobald made a jumper outside the paint on an Aungst layup. Cara Romaniello made a behind the back layup in the paint to make it a one possession game, but the Royals responded with a six-point run. Scranton (3-0) pulled away in the second quarter by taking a 12-point lead into halftime. 

Marywood was out-rebounded for the first time all season by a 35-31 margin. The Pacers committed 14 turnovers to the Royals' 13.

The Pacers head to Chester, Pa. on Sunday to take on Widener University.
