Men's Basketball Knocks off E-Town, 80-74 in OT

Elizabethtown, Pa. - Marywood University's men's basketball team outscored host Elizabethtown College 17-10 in overtime as the Pacers (7-4) came away with a 80-74 road win Sunday afternoon.  Marywood got a team-high 19 points from Thomas Swartz who lead four Pacers in double figures in the win.

Adam Boussatta (15), Jack DeGroot (11) and Donovan Catchings (10) each added double-digit efforts for the Pacers.  Swartz's team-high came on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. Both he and Boussatta were a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe as Marywood shot 76.2% (16 of 21) from the line for the game.

Connor Moffatt and Bryce Greene shared game-high honors for the hosts (4-5) as each put in 21 points.  They were both 8 of 17 from the floor and combined for eight three pointers with Greene knocking down five long balls.

Marywood held a slight 42-38 rebound advantage as both Swartz and Catchings grabbed eight boards.  The Pacers outscored the Blue Jays 34-24 in the paint.

After trailing by two (23-21) in a low-scoring first half and finding themselves in their largest deficit at seven (58-51) after a three from Greene with 4:42 to go in the game, Marywood closed regulation on a 12-5 run to force extra time.  The Pacers actually went on a 7-0 run and tied the game at 58-58 and would hold a two-point 63-61 lead after a pair of Zach Tinkham free throws with 1:13 to go, but E-Town's Moffatt hit a jumper with 56 ticks remaining to tie the game at 63-63. Neither team could find the bottom of the net in the remaining time of regulation, forcing overtime.

There, Swartz hit an opening three to ignite the Pacers who out-scored the hosts 12-6 in the opening four minutes, building a comfortable lead and holding on for the 80-74 win.

Marywood returns to action after Christmas when they head to King's College for the annual Cross Country Challenge. Marywood will take on the host Monarchs Saturday December 29 at 3:00 pm and will then face off against Wilkes University on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Both games will be played at the Monarchs' Scandlon Gymnasium.
