Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Career High from Hessling not enough in Close Loss to LVC

Scranton, Pa. - A career high 32 points from Natasha Hessling was not enough as Lebanon Valley College rallied for a 63-60 win over Marywood's women's basketball team Monday evening at the Insalaco Arena.

Hessling accounted for more than half of the Pacers' points on the night as Marywood fell to 4-7 with the loss. Lebanon Valley (6-5) used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to get back into the game, then held off the Pacers for the road win.

Hessling's career high came on 15 of 19 shooting from the floor.  She also grabbed eight boards, which tied for a game-high with LVC's Jen Eck.  Hessling also went 2-for-2 from the free throw line, but the rest of the team made just one of eight freebies as the Pacers shot 30% (3 for 10) from the charity stripe on the night.

The Dutchmen had three players in double figures, led by Anne Lehr's team-high 16.  Emily Mealey added 15 while Morgan Bamberger had 11.  Aryah Aungst got hot late for the Pacers and finished with 10.

Marywood led 17-16 after a back-and-forth first quarter of play, then outscored the visitors 15-10 in the second to take a 32-26 lead into the break.  After Marywood built a 36-28 lead early in the third quarter, LVC used a 15-0 run to take a 43-36 lead.  A jumper in the paint from Hessling ended that run, and Marywood got back to within three (43-40) on a jumper in the paint from Marissa Fernandez Tierney.

Down 49-49 after three quarters, a quick 6-0 run from the Pacers gave the hosts a two-point, 51-49 lead.  LVC would tie things up and go up 54-51 on a three from Bamberger, one of two key treys she made in the fourth.  A quick 4-0 run from Marywood gave the Pacers a 55-54 lead, but Bamberger nailed another three at the 2:27 mark to put the Dutchmen up 57-55.

Down 57-55, Kilie Wyers nailed a long ball for Marywood to put the Pacers up 58-57 with 2:06 to play.  A pair of Lehr free throws put the Dutchmen back up one (59-58) with 1:37 to play, but Hessling nailed another jumper in the paint to give Marywood a 60-59 lead with 1:16 to play.  Lehr knocked down another jumper just outside the paint with 56 seconds left to give the Dutchment the lead back, and after Marywood missed a couple free throws she knocked down two from the line to make it 63-60. A last ditch effort from the Pacers to tie the game following a timeout was foiled when Bamberger stole the ball and ran out the clock.

Marywood returns to the court January 2 when they travel to Stockton University for a 4:00 pm tip in their final non-conference game before opening Atlantic East Conference play.
