Men's Basketball Heads to the Big Apple for CSAC/CUNYAC Challenge

Aston, Pa. - The Marywood University men's basketball team will head to Queens, N.Y. this weekend as part of the inaugural CSAC/CUNYAC Challenge. The Pacers will face York College (N.Y.) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Jamaica neighborhood of the borough. 

The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) and The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) will face off on the hardwood on Saturday in men's basketball in the first CSAC/CUNYAC Challenge.

The brain child of Gwynedd Mercy University head men's basketball coach John Baron and Baruch College head men's basketball coach John Alesi, the challenge pits two conferences who are both in the Atlantic Region.

In addition to host the games, each institution will be taking donations for Coaches Vs. Cancer. There will be a donation booth set up at each site, with fans encouraged to donate to this popular cause.

Here's a quick look each matchup:
Gwynedd Mercy (16-3, 11-2 CSAC) at Lehman (17-4, 12-1 CUNYAC), 1 p.m., Lehman College, Bronx, N.Y.
The top teams in each conference face off in New York City on Saturday. Gwynedd Mercy comes in winners of seven out of its last eight games. Will Davis leads the Griffins with 18.5 points per game, whie Rip Engel has sank 49 three pointers. Luis Hernandez is one of four Lighting to average scoring in double figures as he scores 18.6 points per game and shoots 57.7 percent from the field.

Staten Island (11-10, 9-4 CUNYAC) at Cabrini (17-3, 12-2 CSAC), 2 p.m., Cabrini University, Radnor, Pa. 
Cabrini, who advanced the NCAA tournament last year, has won 12 out of its last 13 games. The Cavailers are led by Tyheim Monroe who averages 21.8 points per game and 15.8 rebounds per game. Christian Taylor leads the Dolphins in scoring with 16.2 points per game, followed by Adeola Latunji with  15.9 points per game.

Neumann (16-4, 11-3 CSAC) at Hunter (9-11, 6-6 CUNYAC), 1 p.m., Hunter College, New York City
Neumann, last season's CSAC Champion, looks to continue its second half surge as they take on the Hawks. Tyaire Hudsonhas been a strong force for the Knights, scoring 17.5 points per game. He is one of five Knights to average scoring in double figures. George Keener leads the Hawks in scoring with 13.3 points per game, while Matt Franks averages 12.2.

Baruch (11-9, 8-4 CUNYAC) at Rosemont (13-7, 9-5 CSAC), 3 p.m., Rosemont College, Rosemont, Pa. 
Rosemont and Baruch battle on the Main Line in matchup of two similar teams. The Ravens come into the game average 73.5 points per game, led by Mekhi Clemons who nets 15.6 points per contest. Jalil Myers is just under ten rebounds a game on average, grabbing 9.5 per contest. Baruch, who averages just a shade under 73 points per game, is led by Chimaechi Ekekeugbor who scores on average just over 18 points per game.

Marywood (11-9, 6-7 CSAC) at York (N.Y.) (8-13, 5-8 CUNYAC), 3 p.m., York College, Jamaica, N.Y.
Marywood looks to improve its non-conference record, now at 5-1, as it visits York. Thomas Swartz has been having an outstanding season for the Pacers, averaging 18.1 points per game. He has connected on 46.5 percent of his three-pointers (46-99), while Jeremy Ringland nets 14.4 points per game. York is led Edwin Sainvil averages 15 points per game, while Ryan Smart grabs 10.8 rebounds per game.
 
John Jay (8-12, 5-7 CUNYAC) at Immaculata (10-9, 7-6 CSAC), 2 p.m., Alumnae Hall, Immaculata, Pa. 
The Bloodhounds have four players who average double figures in scoring, paced by Hakeem Animshaun who nets 16.2 points per game. He also makes 63.5 percent of his shots (80-for-126). Doug Levy cleans the glass by averaging 8.5 rebounds per contest. Immaculata is led by Mike Piekarski who averages 16.4 points per game, while Jordan Ambrose is averaging 14.1 points per contest.

Keystone (8-11, 7-6 CSAC) at Medgar Evers (6-14, 4-8 CUNYAC), 3 p.m., Cougars Cave, Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Giants head to New York City, and have three players who average scoring in double figures paced by Mark Perry who leads the team with 16 points per game. JT Bennett is second on the team in scoring with 13.6 points per contest. Medgar Evers is led by Maurice Swaby II, who is averaging 20.9 points per game in 31.6 minutes of playing time per contest. He has made 64 three pointers on the season.

Brooklyn (6-14, 6-6 CUNYAC) at Cairn (5-14, 2-12 CSAC), 3 p.m., Mason Activity Center, Langhorne, Pa. 
Brooklyn is paced by Ben Batash who averages 11.8 points per game, while Henry O'Reilly nets 8.9 points per contest. Cairn University's Malachi Hall averages 18.1 points per game while sinking 54.6 percent of his shots.

CCNY (1-20, 1-12 CUNYAC) at Centenary (5-15, 3-11 CSAC), 4 p.m., John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center, Hackettstown, N.J. 
The Beavers visit Centenary on Saturday, paced by Brendan Hauser who scores 12.3 points per game, with James Whitenetting 12.1 points a contest. Centenary is led by Chris LaBelle who is averaging 15 points per game.
