Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Seniors, Swartz Lift Marywood to First Playoff Berth Since 2010-11

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University used a dominating performance from their seniors as the Pacers clinched the first playoff appearance for the men's basketball program with an 84-63 win over Immaculata University Saturday at the Insalaco Arena.

Marywood (15-10, 10-8 CSAC) will travel to #4 Rosemont Monday evening for a first-round playoff matchup against the Ravens.

Immaculata closes their season with a 13-12 record (9-9 CSAC). The Mighty Macs fall out of the playoff picture and Keystone enters the post season as the sixth seed by virtue of a season sweep of Immaculata. The Giants will take on #3 Neumann Monday in Aston.

On senior day, Marywood got a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) and six blocks from Jeremy Ringland, 24 points from James Curley and eight points and five boards from Kendall Farrell in the win.

Junior Thomas Swartz had a game high 26 points, 21 of which came in the second half.  Swartz was one rebound shy of a double-double.  The nation's second leading free throw shooter, Swartz was a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe.

After the two teams traded leads early on, Immaculata rattled off six straight points to take a 22-16 lead with 10:49 to play in the opening half.  From there, Marywood held the visitors without a field goal the rest of the half, and used a 15-0 run to take a 31-22 lead.

A pair of free throws ended that run, but Marywood outscored the Mighty Macs 7-0 the rest of the half to take a 38-24 lead into the break.

Swartz lit up in the second half, scoring 19 points, en route to his game high.  Immaculata could not cut into the Pacers' lead.

Marywood dropped six threes in each half and shot 40% (12 of 30) from behind the arc for the game.  The Pacers shot nearly 46% from the field.

Marywood will look to avenge two regular season losses to the Ravens on Monday. Game time is to be determined.

Cabrini University is the top seed, followed by #2 Gwynedd Mercy University. Both teams have a first-round bye and will host the semifinals Wednesday. The Cavaliers will host the lowest remaining seed after Monday's first-round games while Gwynedd Mercy will host the highest remaining seed.

Prior to Saturday's win, Marywood coach Enrico Mastroianni and his staff honored seniors Curley, Farrell, Ringland and Erik Shirvanian
