Men's Lacrosse Gets Into the Win Column at Wilkes

Edwardsville, Pa. – Marywood University earned its first victory of the season with a 12-7 win over Wilkes University Wednesday in non-conference men's lacrosse action. The Pacers even their record after two games.

The Pacers rushed out to an 8-2 lead in the first half.

Matt Casto finished with a hat trick, an assist and four ground balls. Rob Maini matched him with four points with two goals and two assists.

Zach Vaughan provided the Pacers with two goals and an assist. Jeff Johnsen scored twice.

Defensively, Luke McFadden finished with four ground balls.

Vinny Biancardi recorded seven saves, allowing five in 51 minutes of action with an assist from the goalkeeper position. Cody Geidel and Carter Whittemore combined for nine saves for Wilkes.

For Wilkes, Jeremy Kachel totaled a goal and three assists. John Luna had two goals and two assists. JT Weitzel garnered eight ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The Pacers kicked off the scoring with a Vaughan goal off of the Biancardi goalie clear two minutes into the game. Wilkes evened it right off the faceoff violation with a John Luna goal. Nearly 10 minutes later, Luke Shedler gave Marywood a 2-1 lead. Less than a minute and a half later, Johnsen found the net to go into the first break with a 3-1 advantage.

Wilkes scored early in the second quarter from Nico Lorenzo, from Luna, to move within a goal. The teams traded points again with Maini and Matthew Bush finding the net within a 36-second span. Marywood capped off the first half with four consecutive goals.

???????Marywood extended its streak to seven straight goals with a run of three in the third. Sean Higgins scored with 1:47 left in the period to take an 11-3 lead.

The Pacers host Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon.
