York (N.Y.) Takes CUNYAC-CSAC Challenge, 58-55

Jamaica, N.Y. - Despite outscoring the hosts by 10 in the second half and another game-high effort from Thomas Swartz, Marywood dropped the CUNYAC-CSAC challenge to York College (N.Y.) 58-55.  The loss drops Marywood to 11-10 on the year.  York improved to 6-16 with the win.

Swartz led all scorers with 18 points. Jeremy Ringland added 14.  Three players scored 10 apiece for the hosts in the win.

Saturday's conference slate saw the two conference's challenge each other on the hardwood.  Pairings were created through overall records between the two Mid-Atlantic region conferences.  

York shot 40% for the game from the floor while holding Marywood to 35.9% shooting. The Pacers were just 24% (6 of 25) from behind the three point line while York also made just six attempts (42.9%). York's bench outscored that of the Pacers, 24-6.

Marywood trailed by 14 (39-25) with 16:39 to go but held the hosts scoreless for the next six minutes to get to within five (39-34).  

Down 55-47 with just over three to play, a 6-0 burst ending with a layup from Kendall Farrell to Marywood to with two (55-53) with 1:20 to go, and a pair of freebies from Swartz kept the Pacers within reach (57-55) with 18 ticks left. 

After a foul, York hit one of two on the free throw line for a three point lead before the Pacers' James Curley missed a three to tie the game as the clock expired.

Marywood hosts Centenary at 8:00 pm Wednesday in CSAC action.
