Swartz Nets Game High in 66-58 Win

Scranton, Pa. - Thomas Swartz netted yet another game high, this time scoring 22, to lead Marywood men's basketball to a 66-58 win over Centenary University Wednesday evening in the Insalaco Arena. The Pacers improved to 12-10 (7-8 CSAC) with the win and keep their playoff hopes alive as they battle two teams for the sixth and final playoff spot.

Centenary fell to 6-16 (3-12) with the loss.  The Cyclones got 20 from Chris LaBelle and 19 from Larry Joseph in the loss.  Jeremy Ringland added 16 for the Pacers.  Swartz completed a double-double by grabbing a game best 14 rebounds.  Joseph also had a double-double for the visitors after grabbing 12 boards.

Marywood jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first 2:20 of the game and kept the Cyclones off the board for over three minutes to start the game.  After expanding their lead to 13-3, Marywood slowed a bit and let the Cyclones get back to four (24-20), but the Pacers closed the half on a 10-0 run, highlighted by a Jack DeGroot three with two seconds in the half, to take a 34-20 lead into the locker room. Marywood held Centenary scoreless for the final 3:50 of the first half.

Centenary shot just 30.8% from the floor, including a 0-of-6 effort from three point range and just 44.4% from the charity stripe, in the first half.  Marywood, meanwhile, hit 45.2% of their first half shots en route to the 12 point cushion at the break.

Centenary finished 15 of 25 from the free throw line, proving costly in the eight point loss.  Marywood maintained a comfortable lead in the second half, never letting the Cyclones to within six.  The Pacers held a 42-36 rebounding edge.

Marywood travels to Gwynedd Mercy University Saturday for a CSAS matchup at 3:00 pm.
