Softball Dominates Gallaudet in Opening Series

Titusville, Fla. - Marywood University used two complete-game pitching performances to sweep Gallaudet University in their 2018 softball opening doubleheader Monday afternoon in Florida.  The Pacers won by scores of 8-0 and 11-3, both in six innings.

Kirstie Alvarez (1-0) pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing five hits and zero walks while striking out four batters.  Kaitlyn Epler went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, RBI and one run scored. Heather Schultz was 3-for-3 with a RBI and run scored as well.

Jackie Burke and Kate O'Meara both went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.  After building a 2-0 lead through three innings, Marywood scored six runs over the fifth and sixth to end the opener early.

In game two, Marywood scored seven times in the third to erase a 1-0 deficit, then added two more in the fourth to build a 9-1 lead.  Gallaudet stayed alive with a three-run fifth, but Marywood extended their lead to 11-4 with two in the top of the sixth.

Katie Siano (1-0) had five strikeouts and allowed just four hits in the win.  Kelsey Killeen was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Epler went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the nightcap.  Siano had a double, and Hannah Docalovich was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hailey Rapisardi was 2-for-4 as well and added a RBI.

Marywood takes on Missouri Baptist University Tuesday morning at 9:30 before facing Gallaudet again at noon.
