Baseball Drops Two to Gettysburg to Close Florida Swing

Fort Pierce, Fla. - Gettysburg College took two games from Marywood University Friday as the Pacers closed their Spring Break trip to Florida with 4-4 record.  Gettysburg (3-8) won game one 13-0 and game two 9-3. Marywood heads back north with a 5-5 overall mark.

In the opener, Michael Tempel managed Marywood's lone hit in the game as Gettysburg cruised to the shutout win.  Marywood found themselves in a hole early as Gettysburg built a 3-0 lead after one inning then scored five times in the third to go up 8-0.  They would later add a four-run fourth and plate their final run in the sixth.

The Bullets out-hit Marywood 15-1 and had five extra base hits, including two triples.  Pasquale Mandarano (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing four earned runs over 2.1 innings of work.  Three other Marywood pitchers - Nicholas Boyer, Nathan Michener and Alex Ferriola saw action.

In the nightcap, Gettysburg again plated three first inning runs to gain an early advantage. Marywood tied the game at 3-3 with three runs in the fourth.  After loading the bases, Andrew Lewis was hit by a pitch to push a run across.  After a double play from the Bullets, John Mandarano singled in two runs.

Gettysburg would reclaim a one-run lead in the top of the fifth before breaking out for another five-run inning in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Jake Schuster led the Pacers offensively with a 2-for-3 effort, including a double.  Mandarano (1-for-3) had two of Marywood's three RBI with Andrew Lewis accounting for the other.

Joey Castellani (1-2) struck out five over five innings of work but took the loss.  Colin Maldonato and Michener each pitched one inning in relief.

Marywood is slated to host King's College Tuesday depending on weather field conditions.  The Pacers are also scheduled to travel to King's Wednesday. Stay tuned to marywoodpacers.com for the latest schedule updates.
