Baseball Stumbles at Kings

Wilkes-Barre Township, Pa. - Host King's College used several big innings, including a six-run seventh, to push past Marywood University 15-9 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon.  Both teams now have an identical 5-6 record on the year.

The hosts broke out of the gates early, pushing four runs across in the first and adding two more in the second.  Trailing 6-0, the Pacers responded with a pair of three-run innings in the fourth and fifth to tie the game up.

King's then answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, and Marywood would answer with two in the seventh before the Monarchs broke the game open with a six-run seventh.  Marywood managed one run in the eighth but their final at-bat was cut short as the game was called due to darkness.

Jake Schuster continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a homer, pair of RBI and two runs scored in the loss.  Scott Becker (1-for-3) drove four across, thanks in part to a three-run homer to right that got the Marywood offense started in the top of the fourth.  It was Becker's first collegiate homer.

Michael Tempel and Andrew Lewis also managed a pair of hits.  King's out-hit the Pacers 13-9 on the day.

Jerry Hobbs (1-1) suffered the loss. Hobbs pitched 1.2 innings of middle relief for the Pacers.  Salvatore Monello (two innings), Billy McAuliffe (three innings) and Colin Maldonato (0.1 innings) also threw for Marywood.

Chris Lupole (2-0) got the win for the Monarchs after striking out three in two innings of middle relief work.  Landon LaBar got the save for King's.

The Pacers and Monarchs will face each other again tomorrow at King's at 4:00 pm.
