Softball Swept in Florida Finale

Titusville, Fla. - Marywood Universitiy's softball team was swept by NAIA member Missouri Baptist University Friday to close out their spring break trip.  The Pacers, who fell by scores of 11-0 and 9-1, both in five innings, head back north with a 3-5 mark.

The Spartans, who beat Marywood four times during Spring Break, improved to 13-6 with the wins.

Missouri Baptist opened game one with a four-run first and followed with four more in the third and three in the fourth en route to the 11-0 win.  Alexa Scala was 2-for-2 at the plate for the Pacers while Kaitlyn Epler and Heather Schultz both went 1-for-3.

Amanda Bridgwood (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing the opening eight runs.  Jackie Burke pitched the final two innings, allowing three runs.

In the nightcap, the Spartans used a five-run second inning to build a 6-0 lead and put the game out of reach with a three-run fourth.  Down 9-0, Marywood tried to extend the game and got one run across when Sarah Witte led off with single, moved to second on a Lauryn Butler single and scored on a Chelsea Epler single.  Unfortunately, Marywood could not push more across.

Kirstie Alvarez (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on five hits over two innings.  Alvarez struck out one.  Katie Siano came on in relief, giving up three runs on seven hits over the final two innings while striking out two.

For the Pacers, Epler finished 1-for-3 with the lone RBI while Alvarez, Kelsey Killeen, Annie Heyen, Witte and Butler were all 1-for-2.

Marywood is scheduled to open CSAC play Friday, March 23 with a doubleheader at Neumann.
