Bussinelli Reaches 200 Points in Heartbreaking Loss to Lyco

Scranton, Pa. – Senior Sam Bussinelli became the fifth student-athlete in Marywood University women's lacrosse program history to reach 200 points on Tuesday. The Pacers suffered a 15-13 loss to Lycoming College in the final minutes.

Bussinelli finished with a team-high five points with four goals and an assist. Gwyneth Gleason had four goals and seven draw controls.

Caitlin Watson and Gina Babcock finished with a pair of goals.

Defensively, Molly Yelencsics had five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Michaela DiLorenzo and Kelly Ciabattone also produced five ground balls.

Marywood led 12-10 with nine minutes remaining before the Warriors tallied five unanswered goals to pull ahead from the Pacers. Lycoming's Jordan Lazarich totaled two goals in a 44-second span to even up the score.

The Warriors' Kayla DiJoseph garnered a woman-up goal to put them ahead 13-12 with 7:09 remaining. Hailey Kimble closed out the contest with back-to-back goals in a 21-second time frame.

Marywood (2-2) lost despite outshooting Lycoming by a 37-18 clip. The Pacers also committed significantly less turnovers than the Warriors (35-20) and won the ground ball game by a 32-19 mark.

Lycoming won 70 percent (21-9) of the draw controls.

The Warriors' Kelly McGinniss was seemingly everywhere with four goals, an assist, 15 draw controls, and seven ground balls. Lazarich finished with four goals and two assists.

Lycoming's Ayana Hagan came in relief in goal at halftime and proved to be the difference maker with 12 saves.

Marywood heads to Winchester, Va. to take on Shenandoah University on Wednesday, March 14 at 6:00 pm.
