Marywood Blanks Clarks Summit in CSAC Sweep

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University got 11 strikeouts from Kirstie Alvarez and Alexa Scala had six RBI over two games as the Pacers blanked visiting Clarks Summit University 8-0 (six innings) and 13-0 (five innings) Friday afternoon in CSAC softball action.

Marywood improved to 9-13 (5-5 CSAC) with the wins while the Defenders fell to 3-17 (1-7 CSAC).

Over two games, Alvarez and Katie Siano allowed just four hits.  Alvarez (6-5) pitched a one-hitter in the opener while Siano (2-3) allowed just three in the nightcap.  

Scala was 4-for-8 with four doubles.  Heather Schultz hit .667 (4 for 6) over two games with a double, triple, RBI and five runs scored in the wins.  Kelsey Killeen (3-for-5) had a triple and three RBI over the two games.

The Pacers took an early 3-0 lead in game one thanks to a RBI double to left from Scala, a SAC RBI from Killeen and a Sarah Witte RBI single to left. Marywood went up 4-0 in the third on as Alvarez helped her own cause with a RBI infield single to third, and 5-0 in the fourth on a RBI infield single to short from Schultz.  

In the fifth, Marywood added two on a unearned run on an error and on a Annie Heyen single.  The Pacers closed the scoring with a triple to right center from Killeen that brought Scala home from first.

The Pacers put the nightcap away early, scoring nine times over the first two innings highlighted by a six-run second.  

Today's game started a three in three day swing for the Pacers. Tomorrow, Marywood heads to Maryland to take on Notre Dame of Maryland University before the make up their rescheduled doubleheader with Immaculata Sunday in Philadelphia.
