Alvarez Perfect Game Highlights Marywood Sweep of Gators

Dundalk, Md. - Marywood University junior Kirstie Alvarez pitched a perfect game in the opening bill of the Pacers' doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame Maryland on Saturday.

Alvarez struck out six and did not allow a hit as she earned a five-inning perfect game in Marywood's 9-0 opening game win over Notre Dame of Maryland University Saturday afternoon. The Pacers (11-13, 6-6 CSAC) took game two, 15-4.

Alvarez (7-5) followed up a 11 strikeout, one-hit performance Friday with her first no-hitter of the season.  Marywood provided her with plenty of breathing room in the opener, scoring four times in the first.  The Pacers added five runs over the final two innings to put the mercy rule into play.

Heather Schultz continued her hot bat as of late by going 3-for-4.  Annie Heyen (2-for-4), Alexa Scala (1-for-3) and Alvarez (2-for-3) all had doubles, with Alvarez really helping her own cause with three RBI.

In the nightcap, Kelsey Killeen went 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBI to lead the Pacers' offensive outburst.  Schultz added another three hits (3-for-4) while Scala was 2-for-4 with another double and three RBI.  Heyen finished game two 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

Jackie Burke got the first win of her collegiate career, striking out three over the required three innings.  Kelly McKenna pitched two full innings, striking out three as well.

The Pacers will stay overnight in Philadelphia this evening as they prepare for a key CSAC twinbill at Immaculata Sunday. Game one will begin at 10:00 am.
