Softball Delivers Immaculata its First CSAC Loss in Split

Immaculata, Pa. – Marywood University delivered Immaculata University its first Colonial States Athletic Conference softball loss of the season in a Sunday morning split. The Pacers won the first game 7-1 before falling 7-4 in the second game.

Coach Bob Fitzsimmons won its 200th career conference (CSAC/PAC). He has a 200-139 conference record with a .589 winning percentage. Fitzsimmons is just the third coach in conference history to achieve 200 wins.

In the opener, Marywood scored four unearned runs in the first inning to provide starter Kirstie Alvarez run support for her eighth victory of the season. The first five batters reached in the inning.

Annie Heyen started the day with a single to center field, moved to second on a Heather Schultz walk. A Mighty Macs error plated the first run of the game. Kelsey Killeen singled up the middle to score the second run, and Alvarez helped her cause with a sacrifice fly.

Alvarez had a complete game effort by allowing just four hits and an earned run. She struck out four.

Jackie Burke finished with a 2 for 4 performance with two RBI. Schultz, Scala and Killeen each scored twice.

In the second game, Marywood let a 4-1 lead slip. Immaculata tied the score in the third inning and added three runs in the late innings.

Burke provided her second multi-hit game of the morning with a 2 for 4 effort with a run, RBI and a double. Schultz went 2 for 3, and Mackie Goodwin drove in two RBI.

Trailing by one in the top of the third, Marywood touched home four times in the third inning. Schultz started the action with a one-out single to left-center field. After a free pass put Scala on base, Marywood delivered all four of its runs with two outs.

Burke hit an RBI double to center field to score Schultz. Goodwin singled down the left field line to clear the bases. Kate O'Meara hit a base hit to right-center to send home Goodwin.

The Mighty Macs responded in due fashion with three unearned runs in the bottom frame. Michaela Petito evened the score at 4-4 with an RBI single to the left side.

They went on top in the fifth inning. Renee DeAngelis singled to shortstop, and Keani Hindle scored on an error by the shortstop. In the sixth, Immaculata added two on run-scoring doubles by Ashley Rey and Hindle.

Katie Siano took the loss by giving up three earned runs in six innings of work.

Marywood heads across town to The University of Scranton for a doubleheader on Wednesday at the Royals' new South Side complex.
