Pacers Explode in Second Half to Take Down Knights

Aston, Pa. - Marywood University broke open a second half stalemate with nine unanswered goals to down Neumann University 19-9 in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse showdown on Saturday. The Pacers scored 10 of the last 11 goals scored in the final 24 minutes of the game.

With the game tied at eight apiece with 27 minutes left, Marywood held the Knights to just one goal for the remainder of the game. Gwyneth Gleason put the Pacers ahead with an unassisted goal at 23:29, followed by a Katrina Kelly score in the 22th minute to take a two-goal lead.

Marywood piled it on with three goals in a 93-second span to take a 13-8 lead with 18 minutes left in the contest.

Gleason finished with a season-high seven points. She scored six goals and an assist. Gleason also provided the Pacers with seven draw controls and four ground balls.

Sam Bussinelli matched her with seven points on four goals and three assists.

Michaela DiLorenzo helped the Pacers' defense thwart the Knights with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Kelly had a season-best game with four goals. Faith Grieshaber continued her success on the offensive side of the field with a hat trick.

Molly Yelencsics picked up four ground balls. Mary Leahy earned the victory with three saves.

It was the Pacers' (8-5, 6-0 CSAC) sixth straight victory. Marywood assured itself of a first round bye in the CSAC playoffs.

Marywood went ahead 3-1 in the early going. Gleason won the draw and scored 15 seconds into regulation. After Neumann's Meghan McKewan tied the contest at 1-1, Babcock scored a pair of back-to-back goals to reclaim the lead.

Neumann scored three straight goals to take its lone lead of the afternoon. Brittany Cassidy squared the game at 3-3, and Courtney Petrucelli found the net for a 4-3 advantage.

Thirty seconds later, Gleason scored to set the bar even at 4-4 with 13:25 left. Bussinelli tallied an unassisted goal, and Gleason added another for a three-goal run in a six-minute time frame.

Kelly struck the net with 42 seconds left before half to supply the Pacers with a 7-5 lead at the break.

Both teams traded goals. After a Marywood player was sent off with her second yellow card, Keri Mallon had two goals in 17 seconds to tie the game at 8-8.

Marywood outshot the Knights by a 42-17 margin. The Pacers led 30-22 in ground balls, and both teams finished with 15 draw controls.
