Marywood Tops Immaculata, 6-3

Immaculata, Pa. - Marywood University scored six runs in their first at-bat and Joey Castellani struck out eight in a complete game effort as the Pacers defeated Immaculata University 6-3 in CSAC baseball action Tuesday afternoon.

The Pacers (12-10, 2-3 CSAC) jumped out front early, as the first two batters walked and came home on a Jake Schuster two-run triple to left center.  After a groundout to first, Schuster came home on a Mitch Clemons single to left, putting the Pacers up 3-0.  

Following another out, Marywood would plate three more.  Anthony Navaro would move Clemons to third on a single, and both would advance, with Clemons scoring, on a wild pitch.  Another wild pitch put runners on second and third for the Pacers, and both would come home when Morgan Theobald singled through the right side, giving the visitors a 6-0 lead.

Immaculata (8-15, 3-4) answered with three runs of their own in their first at-bat, two of which came on a single up the middle, but Castellani settled down from there.

The rookie wound up striking out eight and allowing just six hits, only three of which came after the first inning, to get his second win of the year (2-4).

Marywood out-hit the Mighty Macs 4-3 in the opening inning, then 4-3 the remaining eight, for a 8-6 advantage for the game.

Schuster finished the game 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBI, while Theobald was 1-for-4 with his two-run single.

The Pacers and Mighty Macs will complete their regular season series tomorrow in Scranton at 3:30 pm.
