Baseball Falls at Scranton, 14-6

Scranton, Pa. - The University of Scranton scored 12 runs over two innings and kept the Marywood bats quiet after the fourth inning en route to a 14-6 win over the Pacers Friday afternoon at Volpe Stadium.  Marywood fell to 13-11 with the loss while the Royals improve to 11-13.

Scranton rallied from a 6-2 deficit after four and a half to level the season series with the Pacers at a game apiece. Marywood took a marathon game a week ago 19-18.

Marywood took a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat when John Mandarano beat out an infield single to bring home a run, and another run would cross on the same play when the throw to first to get him went wide.

The Royals responded quickly, with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first.

Marywood went up 4-2 over the next two innings, scoring one in each the second and third a Trevor Powers RBI double and Billy Chonka RBI double, respectively.

The Pacers added RBI doubles from Jake Schuster and Mitch Clemons in the top of the fourth to take the aforementioned 6-2 lead.

From there, it was all Scranton. The Royals tied the game with a four-run fourth and then blew the game open with eight runs in the fifth.

Jerry Hobbs (2-3) suffered the loss for the Pacers despite pitching just 0.2 innings of middle relief work.  Powers and Schuster finished with two hits apiece.

Marywood travels to Centenary (N.J.) for a CSAC doubleheader tomorrow.  Game one at Skylands Stadium in Augusta begins at noon.
