Pacers Split at Centenary

Augusta, N.J. - Marywood University defeated host Centenary University 6-3 in the opening game of a CSAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon but the Cyclones forced a split with a 9-1 win in game two.  Marywood's record moves to 14-12 (4-4 CSAC).

Marywood jumped out to a 1-0 lead in game one thanks to a Anthony Navaro RBI single down the left field line in the second inning.  Navaro's single scored John Mandarano, who had reached on a one-out double to right center.

In the third, the Pacers tacked on three more, building a 4-0 lead.  Trevor Powers doubled to left with one out and came home on a Jake Schuster RBI infield single.  Scott Becker would then triple to right to bring Schuster across and would cross the plate himself on a wild pitch.

The Pacers gave one back in the bottom of the sixth, but built a comfortable 6-1 lead with two more runs in their final at-bat.  Powers and Schuster both singled and Becker drove Powers home with a single to right.  Schuster would score when Mitch Clemons singled to right later in the inning.

Powers (3-0) got the win on the mound as well as going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.  He went six innings, striking out four without allowing an earned run.  Colin Maldonato pitched the final inning for Marywood.

Schuster and Becker both went 3-for-4 in the opener.  Powers, Schuster, Becker and Mandarano all doubled for the Pacers.  Becker and Morgan Theobald tripled.

The Cyclones cruised to a 9-1 win in the nine-inning nightcap to snap a 12-game losing streak.  Schuster and Theobald were both 2-for-4 but were the only Pacers with multiple hits.  Mandarono drove in Marywood's only run in the sixth with an RBI single.

Joey Castellani (2-5) suffered the loss.  He allowed three runs over 5.2 innings of work.

Marywood will host league-leading Keystone in a single nine inning affair Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
