Cabrini Extends Marywood Winless Streak to Six

Scranton, Pa. - Visiting Cabrini University extended Marywood's winless streak in softball to six games as the Pacers fell to the Cavaliers by scores of 6-2 and 9-3.  Marywood had chances in both games but could not capitalize as they fell to 6-12 (3-5 CSAC). The Cavaliers improved to 12-8 (8-2).

In the opener, Cabrini jumped all of the Pacers in the first, hitting a pair of doubles and a homer en route to a 4-0 lead.  Marywood settled down from there, but gave up another run in the fourth before Kirstie Alvarez hit a homer to get the Pacers on the board and attempt to help her own cause.  Hannah Docalovich would drive in another run later in the inning, making it a 5-2 ballgame.

But from there the Pacers left runners stranded often, nine total for the game, and Cabrini added another run in the sixth to complete the scoring.  Heather Schultz went 3-for-3 for Marywood while Annie Heyen and Alexa Scala each had doubles.

Marissa Alpaugh, Alexandra Schell and Aysia Cintron all had two RBI for the visitors with Schell smacking the first inning homer.

Jess Giordano (5-4) got the win for Cabrini, striking out two in a complete-game effort.  Alvarez (4-5) struck out four in the loss and also went the distance.

In the nightcap, Marywood trailed 1-0 after a Cabrini run in the top of the second but answered back with an unearned run in the bottom half to tie the game up.  Marywood added another run in teh fourth on an RBI infield groundout from Sara Hayes.

A RBI single and a pair of RBI doubles for Cabrini gave the Cavaliers a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth.  Marywood threatened again in the bottom half of the frame as Kelsey Killeen brought in a run with a single up the middle but the Pacers stranded three runners to end the inning.

Up 4-3, the Cavaliers iced the game with four in the seventh.

Katie Siano (1-3) took the loss for Marywood, going the distance and allowing 14 hits.  Casey Scheuren (6-3) struck out one in her complete game win for Cabrini.  Killeen and Schultz both had three hits for Marywood in the nightcap while Scala added two, leaving her just one shy of 150 hits in her distinguished Marywood career.

Marywood will look to rebound and get back in the win column tomorrow when they travel to Delaware Valley University for a non-conference doubleheader.
