Softball Snaps Skid, Splits at Del Val

Doylestown, Pa. - Marywood University's softball team snapped a six-game slide with a 7-4 win over Delaware Valley University in Monday's non-conference softball doubleheader but the host Aggies took the nightcap 7-0 to earn a split on the day. The Pacers stand at 7-13 now while DVU is 10-6.

In the opener, the Pacers finally provided Marywood starter Kirstie Alvarez some offense, using a five-run fourth to help earn the win.  Alvarez (5-5) has been pitching well but has been provided little run support in her outings.  Today was different, as Marywood collected 13 hits in the win.  Alvarez went the distance for her team leading fifth win of the season.

Annie Heyen was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Alvarez also went 3-for-4 at the plate.  Kelsey Killeen(2-for-4) and Kate O'Meara (2-for-3) both had two RBI in the win.

The Aggies took a 1-0 lead after the first when an unearned run scored on an error.  Marywood answered in the third, tying the game when Heyen scored on an error.  The hosts reclaimed a one-run lead in the bottom half of the inning, but the Pacers woke up in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Alvarez doubled to start and moved over on a sacrifice bunt from Lauryn Butler.  O'Meara singled in Alvarez and moved to third on a Hannah Docalovich double to right field.  Heyen would single to bring in O'Meara and Sarah Witte doubled to bring home Docalovich.  Killeen then singled to center to bring two more runners across.

After Delaware Valley got one run back in the fourth, Marywood, leading 6-4, added an insurance run in the fifth when O'Meara singled to center to bring home Alvarez, who earlier reached on a single of her own.

Marywood's bats were held in check by the Aggies in the second game as the hosts outhit Marywood 12-4.  Heyen, Alexa Scala, Jackie Burke and Sara Hayes had a hit apiece for the Pacers.

Amanda Bridgwood (1-4) suffered the loss for the Pacers.  Kelly McKenna pitched a inning of relief.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they host Clarks Summit University in a 3:00 pm CSAC doubleheader.
