FINALS BOUND: Women's Lacrosse Topples Misericordia to Advance to ECAC Title Game

Sam Bussinelli breaks single-season points record with 102nd

Galloway, N.J. - Marywood University advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III women's lacrosse final for the second time in program history. The fourth-seeded Pacers used an eight-goal run in the first half to defeat No. 2 Misericordia University 17-8 on Saturday morning in Galloway, New Jersey.

The Pacers advance to the ECAC championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the campus of Stockton University. Marywood will take on the winner of Stockton and Marymount University.

Sam Bussinelli broke the single-season school record for points. Bussinelli had five points on two goals and three assists to reach 102 points in her senior campaign. She breaks Diana D'Achille `14's record of 101 points that was set in 2012. Additionally, Bussinelli joined D'Achille (twice-2011 and 2012) as the lone players to reach the century mark in points for a season.

Coincidentally, Bussinelli broke the record that was previously established during the Pacers' only other ECAC finals appearance. Marywood finished ECAC Mid-Atlantic regional runner-ups in 2012 after falling 18-7 to Alvernia University. On Sunday, the Pacers will be vying for their first championship banner in the 11-year program history.

Marywood trailed early on in the game after giving up a Misericordia goal to Kaila Quinlivan 26;45 into the contest. The Pacers were held scoreless for 10 minutes until Erin Healy fired in a shot via Gina Babcock to even the score at one apiece. Forty-nine seconds later, Katrina Kelly came from the back side to put the Pacers ahead 2-1. After Misericordia's Lexee Willey evened the score at 2-2 at 17:42, the Cougars had a go-ahead goal called back and were subsequently issued a yellow card.

The woman-up situation allowed Kylie Winton to kickstart the eight-goal run that ran the course of the first half. Winton put the Pacers on top on an assist from Zoe Simeone with 15:48 left in the half. With 12 seconds remaining, Healy finished the half with a goal from Simeone to head into the break with a 10-2 lead.

Gleason matched a career-high with eight points on five goals and three assists. Gleason brought in three draw controls and went 2-for-2 on FPS shots.

Simeone posted career bests in assists and points. She had four goals and three helpers.

Healy registered her fourth straight hat trick. She has scored three goals in each of the Pacers' four playoff games this season.

Winton and Molly Yelencsics each provided five ground balls, two caused turnovers and a goal.

Mary Leahy kept away nine Cougars' shots and tallied three ground balls. Babcock also had three ground balls.

Kelly figured into the equation with a goal and an assist. Melanie Wittick had a season-high four draw controls.

Marywood avenged an 18-7 loss to Misericordia on March 1. Despite the score, the Pacers (13-7) edged the Cougars 28-26 in shots. Marywood outnumbered Misericordia in ground balls (23-11). The Cougars doubled the Pacers in draw controls (19-8) and FPS shots (6-3).

Misericordia (12-9) was led by Hobbs' hat trick. Shae O'Leary had two assists.
