Pacers Roll into ECAC Semis with 18-12 Comeback Win over Arcadia

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University responded to a three-point deficit with 12 unanswered goals to post an 18-12 victory over Arcadia University Wednesday in the Eastern College Athletic Conference women's lacrosse quarterfinal. With their first ECAC win since 2012, the Pacers advanced to face Misericordia University on Saturday.

Marywood will face the Cougars for the second time this season on Saturday at 11:00 am at Stockton University in Galloway, New Jersey. Stockton faces Marymount University, a fellow Atlantic East Conference member next season, in the other semifinal.

Erin Healy matched a career-high with five goals in her final home game.

Gwyneth Gleason sparked the second-half surge with four goals, two assists for six points. She also finished with a team-best six draw controls.

Sam Bussinelli moved within three points of the century mark for the season with three goals and two assists.

In net, Mary Leahy made 14 saves for a career high. She stopped nine shots and allowed just four goals in the second half.

Defensively, Michaela DiLorenzo finished with six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kelly Ciabattone provided the Pacers with four ground balls, and Molly Yelencsics posted two ground balls and four draw controls.

Katrina Kelly matched DiLorenzo with six ground balls from the attack, in addition to a goal and two assists. Gina Babcock scored two goals and an assist with four ground balls. Caitlin Watson (1g-1a) and Zoe Simeone (2g) both finished with two points.

It was the second time Marywood defeated Arcadia this season. The Pacers defeated the Knights 10-9 on March 4 in Glenside, Pa.

Haley Risi and Bussinelli both established a new school record for most career appearances with 73.

Marywood came out flat, needing nine minutes before scoring its first goal of the game when Simeone evened the score at 1-1. Arcadia held the Pacers for another scoreless drought, going on a three-goal run to take a 4-1 lead on Julia Imbert's first tally.

Kelly assisted a pair of back-to-back goals to Bussinelli and Healy to move the Pacers to within one. Arcadia responded with goals by Imbert and Allegra Benites to double up the Pacers with a 6-3 lead with 3:38 left in the first half. Bussinelli and Gleason teamed up for a goal to go into halftime trailing by two goals.

Just over a minute into the second half with a woman-up advantage, Healy lasered a shot from Bussinelli into the net to start off the Pacers' barrage of goals. Babcock made the equalizer on an FPS shot at 27:49. Forty-seven seconds later, Gleason lifted the Pacers to a lead with an unassisted goal.

Marywood had 11 goals in just over an 11-minute span. Healy capped off the run with three uninterrupted goals in a 2:15 time frame.

Arcadia found its legs with three straight goals to trim the deficit to six with 12:31. Thirteen seconds later, Watson sent a high pass that Bussinelli corralled from mid-air and redirected past the keeper. Twenty-six seconds after that, Babcock Jedi-powered her way around a throng of Knights for her 27th goal of the year.

Arcadia had four goals from Imbert and five points from Victoria Mollitor. Marie Brockman finished with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Despite the score, the box score was fairly even. Marywood outshot Arcadia 41-35 and 29-26 on target. The Pacers won the ground ball game by a 35-28 clip. The Pacers enjoyed a 19-13 advantage in draw controls.

Marywood lost to Misercordia 19-12 on March 1 in torrential downpour in the Back Mountain. The Cougars led by one at half and outscored the Pacers 9-3 in the second half. Bussinelli had four goals and three assists for the Pacers in the loss, and Yelencsics provided four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and four draw controls.

It just Marywood's second win over Arcadia in program history. Prior to this year, Marywood lost five in a row to the Knights.
