Volleyball Survives Five-Set Nailbiter against Giants

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University used a last-chance comeback to down Keystone College in five sets Wednesday in women's volleyball. The Pacers were down three points, 12-9, before downing the Giants in a fifth set that went extra points.

Marywood prevailed by 25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 16-14 scores. It marks the second straight season that the Pacers beat the Giants in five sets.

With Keystone owning match point, the Pacers won the final three points of the match to secure the victory. Marywood evened the score at 14 apiece on a Giants' attack error. On Mikayla Attwood's serves, Ashley King blocked a shot to give the Pacers a slight advantage. Peri Sheeri had a kill on a Sara Burgos feed for match point that went off a pair of Keystone blockers.

Gabriella Santos guided the Pacers with 16 kills and a .208 attack percentage. She also contributed 13 digs and three aces.

Burgos finished with a career-high 35 assists and 15 digs.

Jordan Vossler led five Pacers in double figures on defense with 28 digs. Sam Compton garnered 17 digs and four aces. Katie Bilello totaled 10 digs.

Sheerin tallied 14 kills with three aces and a .111 attack percentage.

Mikayla Attwood had a hand in five blocks with one solo and four assists. She contributed seven kills.

As a team, Marywood finished with a .082 attack percentage. Despite the score, the Pacers had 70 points to the Giants' 49. Marywood led in aces (14-8), blocks (8-4), and digs (100-93).

Erika Schwoyer led the Giants with 14 kills. Amanda Hardy had 31 assists. Defensively, Keystone had four players in double digits. Pamela Heitman nearly matched Vossler with 27 digs, leading Victoria Homfeld (19), Erin Kibelstis (16) and Taylor Beatty (13) on the back line.

Marywood heads to Winchester, Va. this weekend to compete at the Shenandoah Tournament against Wilson, Shenandoah, and Pitt-Greensburg.
