Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lloyd's Five Points Not Enough as Late Goal Sinks Pacers

Scranton, Pa. – A late goal allowed with 41 seconds remaining in regulation kept the Marywood University men's soccer program shy of its first home victory on Monday afternoon. Berkeley College (N.Y.) needed the go-ahead goal in the final minute to post a 4-3 win over the Pacers in a back-and-forth contest.

Zac Lloyd finished with two goals and an assists, factoring in on each of the Pacers' scores. Giovanni Amato had his first goal of the season and second of his career.

In the 90th minute, Meshema Charles zipped past the Pacers' defenders on a long ball into the box from Anthony Mejia and blasted into the net. Ryan Atcavage unleashed a shot on a ball that bounced around in the box, but the Pacers' potential big at overtime sailed high as the final horn blared.

Charles' game-winner undid a late equalizer in the 84th minute. Zac Lloyd sneaked an Aram Aghababian touch past the goalkeeper from 8 yards away to even the score at three apiece. It was Aghababian's first career point.

Marywood went ahead in the third minute. Lloyd back-headed a corner into the box. Amato jumped into the action and deflected the ball into the net for a 1-0 advantage.
Berkeley evened the score in the eighth minute, thanks to some Pacers' misfortune on defense. A long ball from the goalkeeper bounced back off of a defender's head, giving Amadou Sy a clear path to a breakaway tally.

The Pacers regained the lead in the 23rd minute. On a ball into the box, Tom Cuffari flicked a ball to Llloyd to set up an open lane to bury a 15 yard shot for his first goal of the game. In the 29th minute, Jean-Gardy Derineau tapped in a rebound off of a leaping Mike Gallagher save. Carlos Veliz was credited with the assist on the well-struck shot.

Sy gave the Knights their first lead of the contest in the 52nd minute. Sy had his second goal of the game on a thruball on the left side, finding the top left corner of goal from 10 yards out.

Gallagher made eight saves for the Pacers. Dario Cruz Sepulveda made five stops for the Knights.

Berkeley outshot the Pacers by an 18-15 margin and a 12-8 advantage on target. Both teams had seven corner kicks.

Marywood will play its third home match in five days when it welcomes York College of Pennsylvania Wednesday at 7 p.m.
