Field Hockey Rolls to Sixth Win

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University scored two first half goals en route to a 3-1 non-conference field hockey win over Delaware Valley Wednesday afternoon.  Gwyneth Gleason had two goals to lead the Pacers.

Marywood improved to 6-3 on the year, eclipsing their win total from 2017 (5).  The Pacers are off to their best start over nine games since the 2016 team went 7-2 over the opening nine matches. The 2016 squad finished 12-8 and went to the CSAC semifinals as well as the ECAC Quarterfinals.

The Pacers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of play when Gleason tapped in a feed from Angela Sanchez.  Marywood doubled their lead in the 28th minute as Lindsey Gladden beat the Aggies' keeper and a defender to score unassisted from five yards out.

Just 1:50 into the second half, Gleason stole the ball just inside the key and flipped a shot over the goalkeeper to put Marywood up 3-0.

Delaware Valley (5-3) spoiled the Pacers' shutout bid with a goal from Gillian Nardelli in the 61st minute.

Marywood held a 15-7 advantage in shots (9-5 on goal) and 5-2 lead in penalty corners.  Kerri Mountz made three saves on four shots without a goal allowed in 55 minutes of action while Carly Antes finished the game in goal making one save.

Marywood travels to King's College Sunday for a 2:00 pm non-conference matchup.
