Field Hockey Snaps 16-Game Losing Streak to King's

Wilkes-Barre Twp., Pa. - Sophomore Angela Sanchez put in two goals to help Marywood University snap a 16-game field hockey losing streak to King's College in a 3-1 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Pacers improve to 7-3 for just the second time in the past two decades.

The Pacers had last beat King's September 1, 1998 in a 4-3 victory.  Since then, King's had won 16 straight (1999-2003, 2007-2017). The teams did not play each other in 2004, 2005 or 2006.

Jenna Dickey added her team-best eighth goal of the season in the win, and Kerri Mountz made six saves, including a pair of penalty stroke stops, to preserve the win.

Dickey opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Kenzie Drew crossed the ball, and Dickey was able to beat the King's keeper between the legs for the game's first tally.

Marywood carried the 1-0 lead into half as both teams took three first half shots.

Just 2:14 into the second half, Sanchez scored unassisted for her fourth goal of the season. Four minutes later, Drew slotted a ball from the end-line just inside the arc that Lindsey Quinn redirected to Sanchez. She put home her second tally of the contest to give the Pacers a 3-0 lead.

King's (6-6) spoiled the shutout attempt when Rachel Zultevicz scored off a feed from Kelsey Gabriele in the 65th minute.

Both squads took 11 shots in the game, with King's placing nine on goal to Marywood's six. The Pacers had a slight 8-7 edge in penalty corners.

Marywood travels to Wesley College Friday for its opening game of Atlantic East Conference play.
