Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Marywood Upends Wesley Behind Ringland's Record-Setting Performance

Scranton, Pa. - Jeremy Ringland tied his own Marywood men's basketball single game record with eight blocks, none bigger than the one he had with 27.2 seconds left, as the Pacers upended Wesley College 101-94 in the Pacers' Atlantic East Conference opener.

Marywood (9-5, 1-0) took control in the final four minutes and placed six players in double figures en route to the win.  Wesley had three players with 20-plus points but fell to 7-8, 1-1 Atlantic East with the loss.

Ringland finished with a team-high 22 points, eight blocks and five rebounds.  Thomas Swartz had 20 points and eight boards, while Jaden Rhoden grabbed the rebound on Ringland's final block to finish a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 10 boards.  Jack DeGroot also came off the bench and scored 18, while Tone Cockrell (11) and Donovan Catchings (10) also reached double digits for the Pacers.

Wesley's Brian Cameron (game-high 29), Evan Anderson (26) and Derick Charles (20) combined for 75 of the Wolverines' 94 points on the night.

Up 40-37 at the break, the Pacers started the second half slow as Wesley went on a 11-0 run to open the second half, going up 48-40 with 17:30 to go.  Marywood responded with a 14-4 run to get back to within one (52-51) at the 14:30 mark, and the two teams would trade threes over the next several minutes, and find themselves tied at 62-62 with 12:14 to go.

There, Swartz hit a three to put Marywood up 65-62 at the 12:07 mark, and Marywood expanded their lead to 68-64 on a traditional three-point play from Zach Tinkham as Swartz fed him in the lane for the hoop and harm.

Swartz would nail a pull-back jumper from the right baseline to give Marywood a six-point, 70-64 lead, and a few minutes later Ringland hit a jumper followed by a three and one free throw to score six points in a row and give the Pacers a 81-76 lead.

Wesley climbed back to within four (89-85) when Charles stole the ball and converted a traditional three-point play after being fouled on the breakaway, but Rhoden put Marywood back up seven (92-85) when he finished a feed from Ringland and was fouled at the 2:43 mark.

The Wolvernines again cut the lead to five at 94-89 with under a minute left, but a pair of free throws from Catchings, the eighth and final block from Ringland followed by free throws from Rhoden and Swartz iced the win for the Pacers.

Marywood's bench outscored that of Wesley 32-12. The two teams combined for 51 fouls on the evening.  The Pacers went 25-of-33 (75.8%) from the line and the Wolvernines were 20-of-24 (83.3%).

Marywood went 6-for-8 (75%) from three point range in the second half and hit 45.5% of their long attempts for the game.  The Pacers were hot from the floor, connecting on 58.9% (35 of 56) shooting on the night.  Wesley did not shoot poorly either, hitting 47.1% from the floor and 43.5% from three point range.

Marywood is back in action Wednesday when they travel to Radnor to take on Cabrini University at 8:00 pm.
